An authentic response

The Annunciation is one of the great feasts of the year. Mary hears the message from God and responds to it. It is a response that comes from the depths of her being – not just her head (saying ‘Yes’) but also her heart. She is prepared to challenge Gabriel – this is no meek and mild young girl but one who responds from her strength of character and so makes her answer authentic. Are we able, when asked in faith to respond to something challenging and possibly frightening, to be like Mary and answer from the depths of our being?
