Sunday 1st March
Second Sunday of Lent
Genesis 22:1-2,9-13,15-18, Ps.116 B, Romans 8:31-34, Mark 9:2-10
With God on our side who can be against us?
Who can imagine Abraham’s anguish and macabre sense of God? Yet the ram was provided by God and Isaac saved. Out of Abraham’s turmoil, agonising obedience and dread, a transformed relationship of blessing and abundant life with God overflowed to his descendants. Through life’s grief and suffering we also struggle with anguished times of turmoil and fear. Like the apostles at the Transfiguration, we often don’t understand. Today we pray “Let not our enemies exult over us. Redeem us … from all our distress.” How is God inviting me to deeper trust in his promise of blessing and transformation?
