Sunday 17 November
33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Malachi 3:19-20, Ps 98, 2 Thess 3:7-12,
Luke 21: 5-19
A good guide will forewarn those he is leading of the dangers and difficulties that lie ahead. This is done not to frighten those being accompanied, but to strengthen them to stand firm, persevere, and overcome. The Prophet Malachi tells God’s People that the Day of the Lord will bring destruction for the arrogant and evil doers, but healing to those who are faithful to God. Jesus tells us not to be frightened by wars, revolutions, earthquakes, plagues, famines, and even betrayal by family members. He himself will enable us to bear witness to the Truth, and give us a share in his eloquence and wisdom. If we endure with him we shall win the gift of Life.
