Messianic Secret

Why does the motif of the Messianic Secret run through Mark’s gospel? Various theories have now been discredited. In telling those whom he healed not to broadcast these actions, Jesus may have preferred people to discover for themselves who Jesus was by personally meeting and talking with Jesus, rather than by hearsay or a news broadcast. Jesus’ followers were those who encountered Jesus and through that encounter their hearts were opened and their minds and bodies were made whole. Jesus had a getaway boat. Today we could gently and quietly sit in the boat with Jesus and experience his healing presence.
