JOSEPH, HUSBAND OF MARY
Psalm 89; 2 Samuel 7:4-5, 12-14, 16; Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22; Matthew 1:16-21, 24
A good and faithful man
In Matthew, the birth of Christ is told from Joseph’s point of view. They say actions speak louder than words. When Joseph learns that Mary is pregnant, it says a lot about Joseph, when he wants to “divorce her informally”. He was a good man, protective of the mother and child, and, an upright man, trying to do the right thing. When he acted on a dream, it shows him also to be a man of great faith. Help us St Joseph to hold onto our faith in times of confusion and uncertainties.
