Prayer in the ‘whenua’

Perhaps verse six of this passage contains the gist of Jesus’ message about prayer: pray in the secret of your heart. God is there. Verse 11 directs our deepest desire to find food for our soul in the Word of God. This verse also evokes Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well. “Those who drink of the water that I will give will never be thirsty.” As we continue our journey through Lent, we are invited to drink from God’s well within, where we find the secret of our personal whenua, our individual soil.
