Is.49:1-6, Ps.139, Acts 13:22-26,
Luke 1:57-66,80

A special child

Every child is special of course, an individual unique person. Parents have expectations and dreams for their child, friends and relations look for family resemblances and differences. Growing up amidst all these influences, John the Baptist must have found it hard. Such extraordinary stories about his birth, his very elderly parents, friends and neighbours talking and wondering; did he find it a burden? When did he recognize his calling as a prophet? Was it hard to forego so many pleasures? We could pray for all children growing up and searching for their vocation in life.
