Living with Differences

Every human group has its moments of disagreement and conflict – and the apostles were no different. Cephas [Peter] and Paul were both strong characters with definite ideas as to how things should be done. And, inevitably, each man had his supporters. What is striking, though, is how the differences were worked through. They listened to each other; they agreed on the key points; they challenged where it was necessary. What they didn’t do was manoeuvre to gain power over each other; talk behind each other’s back and seek to divide the group. And that is something we can all learn from.
