Beheading of John the Baptist
Jeremiah 1:17:19; Psalm 71; Mark 6:17-29
Dangerous to speak out?
A powerful King, a jealous Queen, and a dutiful daughter. Today’s gospel is the stuff of intrigue. John the Baptist spoke out against the attitudes and choices of the powerful. He spoke out against what was wrong. What is “wrong” in Aotearoa New Zealand today? In our world? Is it wrong to build walls on borders? Is it wrong to build more prisons? Is it wrong to have milk in plastic, not glass bottles? Is it wrong to spend money on churches when we have families sleeping in cars? As people of faith what do we speak out against?
