Fulfilment of the Law

We have a clearer picture of this gospel reading if we see that it follows the Beatitudes.

It’s in the Beatitudes that Jesus revealed the fulfilment of the rules and regulations that were so important to the scribes and Pharisees. In effect, Jesus is saying that the laws are not wrong. What is wrong is the way some see them as objects of worship. Laws are guidance to the states of blessing that he lists. If we go back and reflect on the Beatitudes, we realise that all are about an emptiness that God can fill and use.
