The politics of fear
In many of the gospel readings this last week we see Jesus criticised by fear-filled people. With two thousand years of hindsight, we have 20/20 vision. But how do we react today when someone offers spiritual instruction that seems new? Discernment is necessary. We ask ourselves, does the message speak to our hearts? Is it inclusive? Does it open us to new awareness? Is it about a God of unconditional love? We know that Jesus’ teachings were designed to take people to a larger place. We recognise that Jesus continues to speak this way through Pope Francis.
