FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
1 Kings 2:1-4, 10-12; 1Chronicles 29:10-12; Mark 6:7-13
God’s word, our security
In our first reading, with his dying breath, David enjoins his son Solomon to remain faithful to God; by this fidelity David’s throne will be secure. In our gospel reading, Jesus entrusts his message to his disciples – the message alone is paramount, other essentials are to be kept to a minimum.
The only true security we have is God’s Word. Fidelity to that Word is paramount; everything else is secondary. And God’s Word is not our own. We are called to share it with others by the witness of our lives.
