Jesus’ healing ministry

Matthew 8–9 tells of nine miracles. Jesus’ compassionate ministry of healing fulfils the burden-bearing role of the Servant of Isaiah 53:4: ‘He takes our infirmities and bore our diseases.’ Jesus heals the Gentile centurion’s servant from a distance and takes the initiative to heal the mother-in-law of Peter by raising her up. How are these two healing stories my story? I am invited to enter into the stories, identify with characters and allow the transforming healing of the Risen Jesus to enter my whole being – including my alienated and wounded parts.
