Welcoming Jesus

One of the most striking things in today’s Gospel is that the local people, instead of being grateful for what Jesus has done in their area, beg him to leave the neighbourhood. We can be like them – keen for God to help us but frightened when the response is not what we’d anticipated. When we pray, it should not be to give God specific instructions as to what God should do but to place ourselves totally in God’s care so that we can understand ‘all that the Lord in his mercy has done for us.’
