Our Father
“And do not put us to the test” – this acknowledges that the world can be a place of temptation and persecution. Indeed most of those listening, the apostles, would die as martyrs. They were certainly tested. What might we make of this line? Only by God’s grace can we endure. We might pray that we be spared troubles that could prove overwhelming, causing us to abandon our high vocation. Surely God will hear us.
