The better part

It is easy for us to sympathise with Martha, slaving away to prepare a good meal for their guest. Jesus’ words praising Mary for her attention to his words seem a little unfair. What do his words say to us who often work as hard as Martha in our service of the Lord and his people? Could it be that being with him, listening to him, loving him and being loved by him, are more important than anything we might do? Do we listen carefully to our motives for service? Most of all, do we give priority to listening to the Lord each day?
