Jesus brings joy
Emmanuel, God-with-us, is the Bridegroom. In this passage Jesus is telling us that his loving presence with us, his people, not only 2000 years ago but today, should be a motive for joy and celebration. Today, as in Gospel times, people overflow with joy as they meet him and are deeply touched by him. Christians can be joyful at a very deep level even when life brings sacrifice and pain. As Amos says, “The mountains shall drip sweet wine.” Having Jesus with us and in us can be inebriating!
