Waitangi Day

5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

A true encounter

There are clear messages given in the readings from Isaiah and the Gospel of Luke today. Isaiah meets God in the sanctuary and is sent out as his messenger. The disciples meet Jesus and are sent to be fishers of people. In these deeply personal encounters with God, lives are changed, people are given courage, and the good news is made known to all. On this Waitangi Day, we should endeavour to be people who truly encounter each other and get to know each other as God’s beloved sons and daughters. Then we can work together for the wellbeing of all.
