Fulfilling the Sabbath
Jesus raised up a marginalised man. He looks at those present. He questions them. His gaze penetrates hearts where only God can see. Jesus is angry and deeply grieved at their refusal to be open to God. In the four Gospels, every healing initiated by Jesus happens on the Sabbath. This foreshadows God’s promises. Jesus inaugurates the new creation. Humanity is restored to the fullness of life intended by God from the beginning. How aware am I of the original purpose of the Sabbath, which is to bring us into communion with God?
