Week 1 in Ordinary Time

A life-long adventure

In the ancient world it was not usual for teachers to seek disciples. Instead, teachers attracted disciples. The action of Jesus, therefore, is striking and evokes the biblical figure of Wisdom who goes about calling her followers. These four fishermen are ‘nobodies’ – ordinary people whom Jesus calls to follow him. Throughout the ages, ordinary people are called by Jesus to follow him in their daily live. Saying yes is the first step in a life-long adventure. Reflect on the call of Jesus in your life and give thanks for being called into this lifelong adventure.
