Prophets galore

Jesus challenges his listeners by asking, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see?” They went out to see and hear John the Baptist who is a prophet and more than a prophet. A prophet is a person who speaks forth. We all have a prophetic role to play in the life of the Church. “The holy people of God shares also in Christ’s prophetic office. It spreads abroad a living witness to him, especially by a life of faith and charity and by offering to God a sacrifice of praise” (Church Constitution no.12, Vatican ll).
