Saying our goodbyes
Even though saying ‘goodbye’ can be difficult, the word helps to prepare for the leaving. Paul takes his leave of the people of Ephesus. He tells them that he has done his best to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to them; that he is heading for Jerusalem to meet whatever is to befall him – probably imprisonment and persecution. On the eve of his suffering and death, Jesus offers his final prayer to his Father. He prays that all of those who have been entrusted to him by the Father be given eternal life which is this: “To know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” How graciously do I receive this parting gift from Jesus? How well do I unwrap the gift in my daily life?
