Mary was hardly expecting such a visit when her day began. Like us, she was used to both pleasant and painful happenings in her day – an unwelcome interruption, a disappointing experience, a joyful encounter … With what surprised love she embraces the moment the angel comes with God’s invitation. Called by name, Mary clarifies, and receives a sign: Elizabeth’s pregnancy. Mary has nothing to give God but herself. God asks for nothing else. Saying ‘yes’ to God in prayer means changing my life in accordance with what I have heard.
