God’s voice
The first time God spoke to Jesus was at his baptism in Mark’s gospel. In this passage, God speaks to various people. Elijah and Moses are present and were important because both had experienced theophany on a mountain. Jews celebrated them both as being transported into heaven. Jesus will also be transported into heaven but only after undergoing the cross. Peter and John had been called to discipleship by Jesus. Now, God, who is the authority of this calling, speaks: “This is my Son, the Beloved, listen to him”. Listen to Jesus, even through failure. We too are invited to listen to God’s voice, on our mountains.
