EXALTATION OF THE CROSS (F)
Numbers 21:4-9; Psalm 78; Philippians 2:6-11; John 3:13-17
The gift of God’s son
This feast day in the church has been celebrated since the 7th century. The cross is a symbol of Christian faith, of Christ’s victory over death. We also remember the actual cross. It was found in 326 by Saint Helena, Roman Emperor Constantine’s mother, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is built at this site. We can be awe-struck and humbled when we look at the cross. For on that cross Jesus died for our sins and opened for us the gates of heaven.
