Presentation of Mary [M]

1 Maccabees 2:15-29; Psalm 50; Luke 19:41-44

Dedication to the Lord

Mary was dedicated in the Temple in Jerusalem to the faith of her forebears. It was a faith nourished by the word of the Law and the Prophets. But as she grew and matured in her faith she knew she was called to follow another word. Inspired by the Spirit she became a disciple of her son. She listened for and followed the Word revealed within her family, in the busy round of activities that filled her days. Because she was dedicated to the Lord Mary learnt to see his hand in the ordinary and the mundane.
