Sharing in Christ’s work

This passage of Matthew’s gospel completes a time of instruction and teaching from Jesus – the mission and mandate for the disciple, and the particular shape of his or her response to Christ in sharing in his mission. Within all discipleship however, is the sad reality of division and misunderstanding at all levels of family and in the Body of Christ. Such a reality becomes the backdrop to maturing faith and to steadfastness in Christ. Ultimately, the mission and mandate come from Christ, but at the end of the day our sharing in God’s work is just that, a sharing. The harvest always comes from Christ.
