God’s unconditional love

In today’s reading from Paul’s letter to the Romans, we find a wonderful description of the extravagance of God’s love for us. It is not because we are good or virtuous or deserving or even repentant that God loves us. Indeed, Christ died for us while we were still sinners. That proves God’s unconditional love which is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. That love has no ties. It is not dependent on our good behaviour. This feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is our celebration of that love.
