Seeing from inside

With Peter, the Beloved Disciple runs to the tomb. He gets there first, peers into the tomb, sees the linen cloths, but he did not go in. Later, he goes into the tomb. He sees something else – the separately placed and folded cloth that had covered the face of Jesus. We are told, β€˜he saw and believed.’ The Evangelist seems to be making a distinction between the difference of seeing from outside the tomb looking in, and what can be seen by actually going into the inside. Do I see, looking from the outside, or by entering into the inside?
