Striving to do good

Sloth, or laziness of mind, happens when a person is not disciplined, especially with their eyes, with their ears, their taste and their touch. When this happens, a person loses interest in the spiritual life. The higher part of their being, the intellect, can become lazy because too much attention is being taken by the appetites. If sloth is allowed to take root then the spiritual life becomes deadened and when this happens a person’s heart will not be good and generous and a person will no longer strive to live a life of virtue, will be less likely to do a good action when the opportunity presents itself.
