Jesus the Healer

We usually associate the word ‘salvation’ with being rescued or redeemed; but the Latin ‘salve’ means also ‘to heal’. When we see Jesus as Healer, we become aware that this was the focus of his ministry. People who were physically or spiritually broken were made whole. In this detailed gospel story, we see how Jesus broke the blood taboo to heal a woman with a haemorrhage. It was at a personal cost, because he felt energy leave him. Now, in prayer we reflect on the ways he can heal through us, and how willing we are to step over taboos and accept whatever cost is involved.
