The Lord consoles his people
Isaiah was the voice of God’s consolation to Israel. Cyrus was chosen by God to free the captives from exile in Babylon, and return them to Jerusalem where God dwelt in the Temple. Jerusalem’s temple is surpassed by the fullness of God dwelling in the new and eternal Temple of Jesus’ body. In today’s Gospel, Jesus exhorts us to listen to his words which are solemn, consoling and life-giving: “whoever listens to my words and believes in the one who sent me, has eternal life.”
Kneel before Jesus and entrust yourself to him in faith, hope and love.
