Sunday 25 February
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
Genesis 22:1-2, 9-13, 15-18; Psalm 116; Romans 8:31-34; Mark 9:2-10
Faith must grow
The disciples, Peter, James and John, were privileged to witness Jesus transfigured in glory, but how easy it is for us to become bedazzled by the wondrous. That is why Jesus warns Peter, James and John not to say anything about what they had witnessed until after his resurrection, in other words, until after they had first experienced his dying on the cross.
It is when faith is sorely tested, as Abraham’s faith was sorely tested, that the strength of our conviction is revealed. Growth in faith is not optional if it is to hold firm against any future adversity.
