Congratulations to Dr William Jennings, Senior Lecturer in French, University of Waikato, Hamilton, on being awarded the John Dunmore Medal for 2017.

Awarded annually, the John Dunmore Medal recognises major contributions to knowledge and better understanding of the part that French people have played in the development of the Pacific.

Drawing on the letters of the first French Marist missionaries in New Zealand and Oceania, Dr Jennings has contributed significantly to knowledge of 19th century French presence in the Pacific.
