Restless hearts
The conversation between Jesus and the woman at the well is the platform for Jesus to reveal himself as the source of ‘living water’ that will quench every thirst. St Augustine found this water only after aimless searching, with the realisation that, as he wrote, ‘our hearts are restless and they will not rest until the rest in you, O Lord.’ I pray today for all ‘restless hearts,’ including my own: Slow me down, Lord. Quieten me, that I might hear the rippling stream flowing beside me, and recognise your voice speaking rest to my troubled, worrying heart. Amen.
