Sunday 13 August
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
1 Kings 19:9, 11-13; Psalm 85; Romans 9: 1-5; Matthew 14:22-33
Do not be afraid!
Don’t be afraid! So many times we hear that in the gospels: in the annunciation; in Joseph’s dream; in this Sunday’s reading with the disciples battling a heavy sea. Jesus walks towards them on the lake and they are terrified. O Jesus, tune me to your voice of calm and reassurance. Strengthen me to trust in your presence and in your power to guide every situation. When I meet trouble or pain, in times of doubt and anxiety, help me find courage in your words and turn my fear to hope and joy and wonder. Amen.
