First Sunday in Lent

Genesis 2:7-9, 3:1-7; Psalm 51; Romans 5:12-19; Matthew 4:1-11

Temptation

Today we are reminded that Satan is very real, that he tempts us constantly and that he focuses on those areas in which we are most morally and personally vulnerable. We should therefore seek to identify our personal moral vulnerabilities, (‘lead us not into temptation’), and pray for help in resisting the tempter’s influence, (‘deliver us from evil’) so that we will ‘… grow strong in the Lord with the strength of his power … to resist the Devil’s tactics’ (Ephesians 6:10).
