Jesus doesn’t mince words or leave room for misunderstanding in setting out the criteria for those who want to be his followers. How comfortable my Christian life appears in the light of those criteria! They make me feel distinctly uncomfortable! Have I ‘renounced myself’? Have I ‘died’ to myself? Do I ‘take up my cross every day?’ What do these things mean for me in my life? Am I really a follower of Christ? Challenging questions. But the Gospel is challenging, isn’t it?
