The territory of the Cross
In the face of the world’s intolerance towards Christianity what do I do with my faith? Do I water it down so that it is more relevant to the world and more comfortable for me? Is that what I see when I read today’s gospel? I see a man obeying his Father. A sign that my faith is strong and my outreach true is a felt need for God’s personal protection. Wanting to be seen as enjoying God’s favour is part of discipleship. So is suffering the ignominy of watching my enemies overpower me. Not feeling God’s favour belongs to the territory of the Cross.
