True freedom
St Paul was a true friend of Christ. Even a cursory reading of this passage will reveal that he does in fact know Christ well. He has been thoroughly captured by the living Person who is Christ. The woman in the Gospel stands her ground as her condemners leave. Jesus Christ is attractive to her. She ‘knows’ that he knows how hard it is not to sin. We see that Christ, in his choosing not to sin, conveys to her a freedom that she can share and I can share today. Jesus Christ asks me to receive this gift into a new region of my heart where shame is felt and healed as God’s grace is known.
