Obedience to Christ
Human disobedience corrupts the goodness of God’s creation, turning God’s blessing into a curse. The intimacy between God and humanity is sundered and humanity experiences hardship, pain and death – the effects of such a separation from God the source of life. By feeding the crowd from seven loaves with seven basketsful of scraps left over, Jesus becomes the sign of God’s blessing. In Jesus, the abundance of God’s blessing is restored. Only by our obedience to Christ will we return to the abundance of God’s blessing meant for all creation from the beginning.
