Prophets

The readings remind us that God sends his special emisaries to our world. They alert us to peril. We are warned of approaching events, and to reconsider our behaviour. But they are not often recognised as being God’s messengers. If their advice doesn’t fit in with current patterns of belief, these messengers are mocked and even violently dealt to. Jesus warned that he himself would be so treated. This pattern has recurred over thousands of years. Are we deaf to hearing what is good for us?
