God in the everyday

Lay life should have an everyday prophetic understatement to it, and vowed religious life a visible, prophetic edge. Worshipping God on Sunday in a secular culture is an everyday prophetic act. We are all called by name, by God to be holy. Our deeds then will speak louder than our words. For everyday actions to speak of God we need to take time out, make a retreat, pray in a private place so that we get to know something of God’s ‘otherness’. The prophets know God well. Our everyday prophetic acts back them up in their somewhat hard and austere lives.
