John 2:13-22
St John Lateran is the Pope’s Cathedral, and so is a symbol of the unifying life and work of Christ in gathering and ministering to his People. It is from the waters of life of the heart of Christ that we drink of His Spirit each day, and are purified and re-created. We become a living temple of God, as we share in the building up of the Body of Christ, his Church. Our personal temple, and our communal Temple are always being purified, renewed and re-created by the Lord himself. In a particular way he has given the leadership of this building-up to the successor of Peter, the Pope. We rejoice in our day that God has given us Pope Francis – who is leading the way in re-forming the Church today through the inspiration of his example.
