These strange instructions for the twofold apostolic ministry would not fit into a modern manual – no food or money, and minimum clothing. The unmistakable message is that pure, raw faith operates for good only when we are prepared to make room for God – literally. And so it transpired in this first missionary outreach, of which we are the ultimate legatees. Rejecting those who reject God announces another clear message – don’t mess with God. Don’t underestimate His power.

Lord, make my light shine like a beacon burning off all that is unnecessary.
