Transfiguration
Were the disciples allowed to see the transfiguration of Jesus to prepare them for the trials ahead? We don’t know, but we do know they found the moment so wonderful that Peter begged to be allowed to prolong it. We all, I think, have moments like this, when we experience the beauty and reality at the heart of things, when in some way we touch eternity. We share that longing to hold on to the moment, to prolong the experience, but such things cannot be held. We have to return to the everyday. What we can do, however, is keep the memory in our hearts, something to thank God for, and something to strengthen us in our times of trouble and temptation. Do you have such a memory?
