Humility
Today we celebrate the life of the Peruvian saint, Martin de Porres. He lived over 400 years ago but experienced firsthand the problems we have today - of racism, poverty and social injustice. He was the illegitimate son of a Spanish nobleman and black slave and as a child was put into foster care. However, his background was no obstacle to his love for God and, as this love grew, so did his humble recognition of the greatness of God. Martin’s humility became a powerful channel of God’s love and healing especially to the poor and underprivileged.
