The kingdom of God
Here Daniel describes and explains a dream that is worrying his master, the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel interprets the various sections of the colossal statue in the dream as the succession of empires to which the Jews were subject, beginning with that of Babylon. The stone that grows into a mountain is the kingdom of God, in whom the book’s author places his trust, despite the oppression his people experienced in the second century, when the book of Daniel was probably written. Do we believe that, despite the games of international power politics, the reign of God will eventually prevail?
