Jesus The Stirrer

“Gentle Jesus meek and mild?” Maybe, sometimes – but not always! Love sometimes demands confrontation, rebuke and even provocation. Jesus at times resorted to all of these. In today’s reading from Luke, he deliberately provoked the Pharisees by offering, without being asked to do so, to heal a man on the Sabbath precisely because he knew they were watching him! Yes, Jesus was a stirrer and there are times and situations when we need to be stirrers too! To love sometimes requires “tough love”.
