St Matthias

Acts 1:15-17, 20-26;
Ps 113; John 15:9-17

Pope Benedict XVI in his encyclical Deus Caritas Est, observes that “Love cannot be commanded; it is ultimately a feeling either there or not.” But he then elaborates: “In the love-story recounted by the Bible God comes towards us, he seeks to win our hearts all the way to the piercing of his heart on the Cross... He makes us see and experience his love, and since he has first loved us, love can also blossom as a response in us.” St Matthias witnessed God’s infinite love for us and in him it blossomed into a life of love and service.
